Michael (Mick) Thompson is a British national and a committed international educationalist having spent most of his career working in Europe, Africa and Asia. He possesses a B.Ed and M.A. from Leeds University (U.K.), the Certificate of International School Leadership (Principals’ Training Center) and has been an active member of the Academy of International School Heads since its inception. He has held leadership positions in international schools in the Netherlands, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Botswana and, most recently, India where he has been the Director of the Mercedes-Benz International School in Pune which is fully accredited by the International Baccalaureate for its three programmes, the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Mick has thorough knowledge of the accreditation services, having served as an accreditation team leader, report reader and advisor to CIS and NEASC as well as the head of accredited schools. He has also worked with WASC and MSA and has introduced I.B. programmes into three schools. He was also on the Advisory Committee when the Cambridge International Examinations introduced the IGCSE.
He has served on the Board of The Association of International Schools in India (TIASA) for ten years and was the only non-national selected to serve of the Education Steering Committees of the Planning Commission which produced the current Five Year Plan of the Government of India.
As an experienced school leader , Michael is an expert in all aspects of the development of international schools, especially leadership, governance, philosophy, recruitment (of staff and heads) and orientation for international education ,international K-12 curriculum, finances, marketing, intercultural awareness and accreditation. He is also an experienced workshop leader and conference speaker.
